Meet Victory Fiifi Dsane, Process Engineer and Chair of the Junior Board at Tomorrow Water

Q: Tell us about yourself and your background

Victory: I was born and raised in Ghana,  where I obtained most of my education  including my undergraduate degree in Process Engineering. In my early 20’s, I relocated to South Korea to obtain a master's degree in chemical and biological engineering from Korea University and later obtained a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Chungnam National University, focusing on biological wastewater treatment.

Q: Why did you choose to become a Process Engineer and follow this career path?

Victory: I have always been passionate about engineering and was initially drawn to it by my love for mathematics. I started with process engineering because I believed that any type of engineering would require a deep comprehension of the process. Although I specialized in Food Process Engineering at the undergraduate level, my actual desire has always been to work in the water industry. During my master’s education journey, I was privileged to study desalination with Electrodialysis (ED) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology. Later, I returned to Ghana with the acquired knowledge in this area to contribute as best as possible to the ‘newly established desalination plant’ constructed in the heart of Ghana’s capital. Upon return, I was heartbroken to discover that the plant was not operational and could not achieve the expected water quality (believed to be because of the unimaginable quantities of untreated wastewater and organic waste discharged in those regions). This sparked my desire to pursue wastewater treatment to help make a direct positive impact. After graduating with my PhD in Environmental Engineering, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to begin my career with BKT/Tomorrow Water to help achieve the mission of ‘A Clean and Beautiful World Beyond Waste.’

Q: What are your day-to-day responsibilities as a Process Engineer at Tomorrow Water?

Victory: As a Process Engineer at Tomorrow Water, my role encompasses a variety of tasks that are pivotal to the company operations. I engage in the design and review of engineering documents daily to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards. I also play a role in the proposal development, contributing to technical insights and innovative solutions that reflect our commitment to sustainability. I also participate in presenting Tomorrow Water’s cutting-edge solutions to clients to tailor our services to their unique needs. Overall, my responsibilities align with the typical scope of a process engineer, but at Tomorrow Water, we all work towards one goal together to advance our mission for a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Q: What are you the most passionate about in your role today?

Victory: What drives my passion as a Process Engineer at Tomorrow Water is the opportunity to be at the forefront of providing innovative solutions in wastewater and organic waste treatment. Our solutions are aimed at improving the lives of people across the globe.

Q: What is your vision for the future of water? How do you view the impact of technology on the future of water?

Victory: My vision for the future of water is one where scarcity and pollution are issues of the past. I envision a world where clean water and sanitation are universally available to  every community, regardless of location or economic status. Wastewater treatment has to provide positive impacts when it comes to clean water, energy, and economic growth. I believe technology will play a crucial role in the future with advances in AI, machine learning, and treatment technology enabling us to treat water more effectively, predict and prevent contamination, and manage water resources with unprecedented precision, while maintaining an approach with unique integration of the right technologies using a well-balanced process. The impact of technology and integrated solutions will be profound, leading to a more sustainable and equitable world where water is a catalyst for growth and well-being and this future of water has already started with Tomorrow Water.

Q: How do you view the impact of Tomorrow Water’s solutions in the wastewater industry?

Victory: Tomorrow Water’s solutions are transformative in the water and wastewater industry. Our approach goes beyond just treating wastewater; it’s about reimagining waste as a resource. By developing, implementing, and integrating cutting-edge technologies we’re not only addressing current environmental challenges but also setting new standards for sustainability. Our solutions have a ripple effect, improving public health, protecting ecosystems, reducing treatment space requirements and contributing to economic growth. As TW implements these innovative solutions to both municipal and industrial clients, we’re helping to shape a future where clean water is accessible and waste is minimized.

Q: What do you like most about Tomorrow Water?

Victory: Our team, I feel integrated and comfortable as part of the team. A team with great diversity where each person has a unique role that makes the team effective and diverse. Tomorrow Water is a company that cares about solving a problem and I like being part of a group of environmental professionals that help solve water and wastewater needs globally.
