Q: Tell us about yourself and your background
Martin: As Director of Project Management, I lead with a passion for supporting my team and collaborating with stakeholders. I'm a mechanical engineer by training, with a sharp eye for mechanical, structural, and architectural designs, and a background that’s diverse and somewhat unique: born and raised in Argentina, by Korean parents. It’s a blend of cultures and perspectives that keeps things interesting, but I like to think it gives me an edge. My career kicked off in system integration within the construction industry, specifically focusing on water and wastewater treatment. Early roles as a project engineer, estimator, and proposal engineer gave me a solid foundation in the technical, financial, and strategic aspects of complex projects, enabling me to excel in my current leadership position.
Q: Why did you choose to become a Director of Project Management and follow this career path?
Martin: I can't say I initially chose this career path, but it has undoubtedly evolved into a passion over the years. Early on, I was drawn to the construction industry, particularly to heavy industry, large structures, and large-scale projects. The excitement and challenge of working on these ambitious undertakings have fueled my enthusiasm and commitment to this field.
Q: What are your day-to-day responsibilities as a Director of Project Management at Tomorrow Water?
Martin: My role involves managing negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and vendors on both the technical and commercial aspects of projects. Monitoring project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure our projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction while driving the company’s growth and success.
Preparing and reviewing cost estimates for proposals, contributing to our overall sales and business development strategy.
Maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, to ensure ongoing alignment and long-term success.
Management and ensuring financial health across projects.
Providing mentorship and support to project managers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
Q: What are you the most passionate about in your role today?
Martin: I am driven by a deep passion for winning—whether in business, sales, project execution, or delivering exceptional value to our customers. Winning is everything, and I take pride in helping our clients achieve success through our services. My greatest motivation comes from working within a team, united by a common goal, and solving complex challenges together where collaboration and excellence lead to shared victories.
Q: What is your vision for the future of water? How do you view the impact of technology on the future of water?
Martin: I envision a future where water education reaches mass audiences through innovative platforms like social media, climate change initiatives, and AI-driven content. I imagine a world where understanding water’s critical role becomes the next big thing, driven by a ‘fear of missing out’ on essential water knowledge. It’s not just about the benefits of drinking water; it’s about recognizing water’s indispensable role in every aspect of life—from agriculture to technology. Social media and AI will elevate water’s importance, making it a viral topic and a central theme in everyday conversations.
Q: How do you view the impact of Tomorrow Water’s solutions in the wastewater industry?
Martin: I believe in the grand scheme of our industry, our impact might be the size of a single pixel on a giant screen, but our vision and attitude?... Think of a mouse with the confidence of a lion!”
Q: What do you like most about Tomorrow Water?
Martin: My favorite aspect is the freedom to be creative and achieve excellence, supported by a company that empowers me to push boundaries and deliver outstanding work.
